Why followers matter for Dutch accounts

DataReportal’s Digital 2026 report counts 8.15 million people in Instagram’s advertising audience in the Netherlands in late 2025, about 44% of the population. That is a large room, but it is smaller than the reach YouTube has here, and a good share of those people use Instagram mainly to check on friends, shops and events near them.

Is it legal to buy Instagram followers in the Netherlands?

Buying is not a crime, but the rules differ by use. The consumer authority ACM says businesses and influencers must not use fake followers to look more popular, and warns that buying new ones risks a fine for misleading consumers. Purely personal use falls outside that, though it usually breaks platform rules. If your account sells something, do not present the count as proof of popularity.

Should my bio be in Dutch or English?

Write it in the language of the people you want to follow you. A neighborhood bakery or a Dutch-language comedian reads as more local in Dutch. A DJ, designer or startup selling beyond the border loses nothing in English, since English is widely understood here. If you cannot decide, put the English line first and keep the Dutch line for the caption.

Will the followers be based in the Netherlands?
