Instagram and TikTok in Berlin: what works

Berlin’s year has two visible peaks. The first is the film festival: the 76th Berlinale ran from February 12 to 22, 2026, and for those ten days cinema, fashion and nightlife accounts all post from the same few streets. Berlin Fashion Week sits right before it, with a winter edition from January 30 to February 2, 2026 and a summer edition from July 2 to 5. If you make clothes, jewelry or photographs, these are the weeks when buyers and editors are already looking at Berlin.

The second peak is less obvious: startups. Berlin startups closed 218 financing rounds in 2025, more than any other German city according to the EY Startup Barometer figures Berlin Partner published, and a lot of those companies hire, market and post in English. The Deutscher Startup Monitor 2025 puts the share of foreign staff at Berlin startups at 42 percent. That changes who reads you. A founder’s TikTok, a design studio’s Instagram or a developer’s X account can reach Berlin readers in English without losing much.

Neighborhoods behave differently online. Neukölln and Kreuzberg are flea markets, small galleries, bars and Späti culture, where rough, handheld video fits better than polished ads. Prenzlauer Berg and Friedrichshain lean toward families, cafés and design shops. Mitte has the showrooms, tourists and brand flagships. Shoot what people in your area actually do on a Saturday, not the Brandenburg Gate.

Winter is long, and it shapes the feed. From November to March, indoor formats such as studio sessions, cooking, record digging and vintage try-ons carry most accounts, and the lakes and open-air spots come back in summer. Keep a stock of indoor clips so your posting does not stall in January.

For timing, start with weekday evenings and Sunday afternoon in German time, then let your own analytics decide. A club night promoter and a children’s bookshop will not end up in the same slot, and that is fine.

Who orders from Berlin

A techno producer is releasing an EP and posts four short studio clips in the week before. He adds TikTok views to the first one, so the series has enough plays to show whether listeners prefer the gear clips or the crowd clips, and he shoots the release-day video in the style that won.

A vintage seller in Neukölln is moving her shop from flea-market stalls to Instagram. Before the first online drop she orders Instagram views on the try-on Reel that announces it, so the drop is seen by more than her existing followers, and she compares saves and DMs against her usual weekend posts.

A backend developer starts writing build threads on X under his own name. He puts X followers on the new personal account so his first threads are not read on an empty profile, then judges each thread by replies from other developers rather than by follower count.

Rules to know before you post ads

In Germany, a sponsored post needs a clear label such as “Werbung” or “Anzeige”, and the state media authorities publish a guide showing where and how to place it on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. A business profile also needs an Impressum with your name and address. EU and German unfair-competition law also ban commissioning fake reviews or social-media endorsements to promote sales, so bought engagement must never stand in for customer approval. Our Germany page has both rules with official links.

Berlin FAQ

Timing, events and ordering for accounts in Berlin.

Should Berlin accounts post in English or German?

Post in the language your buyers read, and expect it to be mixed. The 2025 Deutscher Startup Monitor found that 42 percent of people working at Berlin startups come from abroad, against 32 percent nationally. A tech or nightlife account can live in English. A neighborhood bakery or a Kiez shop usually does better in German, with an English line underneath.

What should I post during the Berlinale?

Post the city around the festival, not the red carpet. Press agencies own the premiere photos. Queues at the Potsdamer Platz cinemas, ticket hunting, a café where people argue about films and your own short reviews give viewers something new. The 2026 festival ran from February 12 to 22, so plan your shoots for mid-February.

When do Berlin creators get the most engagement?

Nobody can give you one number for a whole city, so test it. Start with weekday evenings and Sunday afternoon in German time, keep each slot for two weeks, and compare reach in your analytics. Nightlife accounts often find late Friday works, while food and family accounts tend to win earlier in the day.

Is Fashion Week worth it for a small label?

Yes, if you have something to show that week. Berlin Fashion Week has two editions: one around the turn of January and February, one in early July. Small labels that film studio prep, fittings and off-schedule showroom visits get attention from people following the shows, even without a runway slot of their own.

May I film inside Berlin clubs for Reels?

Often not. Many Berlin clubs ban phone cameras or ask guests to cover them, and filming without permission can get you removed. Ask the venue before the night, or film the queue, the street and the morning after instead. A Reel you can post without complaints is worth more than a clip someone asks you to delete.
