The short answer

There is no universal hour. Find where your followers live and when they are active in Instagram Insights and TikTok's Followers tab, convert those hours into one reference clock, post shortly before the peak, and test two or three slots for three weeks. Re-check after every clock change, because the gaps between countries move.

Key facts

  • Instagram shows your followers' most active times and top locations once an account has at least 100 followers.
  • TikTok suggests posting on your followers' most active days, at most two hours before activity peaks.
  • Europe's clocks go back on October 25, 2026; the US and most of Canada follow on November 1, 2026.
  • New South Wales moved to daylight saving on October 4, 2026 and moves back on April 4, 2027.
  • Instagram and TikTok Studio both let you schedule posts up to 30 days ahead, as of October 2026.

Search for a posting time and you will find charts full of confident hours. Most are built from other people’s audiences, and many are drawn in one country’s clock. If your followers live somewhere else, or in several places at once, those hours can be wrong by half a day.

This guide teaches a method instead: find where your followers live, read when they are active, convert everything into one reference clock, post a little ahead of the peak, and test. It works for a creator with followers in one city or across four continents. For worked examples from a single country, see our guides for the UK and Australia.

Timing also decides when any boost should happen. If you buy Instagram likes for a launch post, order them right after you publish in your chosen slot, so the people who see the post first find some response already there. Likes on a post nobody is awake to see do little.

Does posting time actually matter?

Yes, but less than what you post. Instagram’s 2023 ranking explainer lists, among the signals about a Feed post, how many people liked it and how quickly people are liking, commenting, sharing and saving it, alongside “more mundane information” such as when it was posted. TikTok’s help center lists time zone and day among the information it uses, and its Safety Center lists the time a video was posted among video signals. Both platforms say viewer behavior counts for more.

So timing works through the first viewers. A post published while your followers are scrolling collects early responses quickly; the same post published while they sleep waits hours for its first reactions. Timing won’t fix a weak opening. It gives a good post a fair start.

Step 1: Where do your followers actually live?

Start with location, because it decides which clocks matter.

  • Instagram. Insights, then Total followers, shows top locations of your followers once the account has at least 100 followers. Insights need a public account, and you can choose preset or custom timeframes within the past 90 days.
  • TikTok. The Followers tab in analytics shows top locations along with gender and age. The Viewers tab adds where your recent viewers are, which TikTok notes is based on predictive models rather than confirmed data.

Write down the top three locations and their rough share. A creator whose followers are 70% in one country plans differently from one split 40/30/30 across three continents.

Step 2: When are those followers active?

Both apps chart this for you.

  • Instagram shows the times your followers are most active on Instagram, by day and hour, in the same Total followers section.
  • TikTok shows follower activity by hours and days in the Followers tab. TikTok’s Creator Academy calls it your “programming calendar.” The Viewers tab separately shows when your viewers were most active over the last seven days, which includes people who don’t follow you yet.

Use the followers chart for regular posts and the viewers chart as a check on reach to new people. If the two disagree, your strongest growth may be coming from an audience that keeps different hours from your existing followers.

One caution: the help pages we checked don’t state which clock these charts are drawn in. If a peak looks implausible for where your followers live, such as 4am, convert it as if it were UTC and see whether it makes sense.

Step 3: How do you convert hours across time zones?

Pick one reference clock and convert everything into it. UTC is the easiest, because it never changes for daylight saving. The table covers the audiences we see most often, as of October 2026.

Audience (example city) Standard time Summer time Clock changes, 2026–27 8pm local in UTC, Nov 2026–Mar 2027
US and Canada East (New York, Toronto) UTC−5 UTC−4 Back Nov 1, 2026; forward Mar 14, 2027 01:00 next day
US Central (Chicago) UTC−6 UTC−5 Same as US East 02:00 next day
US West (Los Angeles) UTC−8 UTC−7 Same as US East 04:00 next day
UK (London) UTC+0 UTC+1 Back Oct 25, 2026; forward Mar 28, 2027 20:00
Germany, France (Berlin, Paris) UTC+1 UTC+2 Same as UK 19:00
Romania, Bulgaria (Bucharest, Sofia) UTC+2 UTC+3 Same as UK 18:00
UAE (Dubai) UTC+4 No change None 16:00
Australia East (Sydney) UTC+10 UTC+11 Forward Oct 4, 2026; back Apr 4, 2027 09:00
Australia West (Perth) UTC+8 No change None 12:00

Where the dates come from: US federal law sets daylight saving from the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November, and lets states exempt themselves. Canada’s National Research Council lists the same dates, with exceptions such as most of Saskatchewan, which stays on Central Standard Time, and Yukon, which has used UTC−7 all year since 2020. The European Commission confirms the EU switches on the last Sundays of March and October, GOV.UK gives the UK dates, the NSW Government gives the dates for New South Wales, and the UAE government lists a single offset four hours ahead of GMT.

Now see what one upload means around the world. Here are five UTC posting times during the northern winter.

Post at (UTC) New York Los Angeles London Dubai Sydney
00:00 7pm (previous day) 4pm (previous day) Midnight 4am 11am
08:00 3am Midnight 8am Noon 7pm
13:00 8am 5am 1pm 5pm Midnight
18:00 1pm 10am 6pm 10pm 5am
21:00 4pm 1pm 9pm 1am 8am

No single row works everywhere. That is the real lesson: with followers on three continents, you choose which group gets prime time for each post, and rotate.

Step 4: How far ahead of the peak should you post?

TikTok answers this directly. Its Creator Academy suggests posting on your followers’ most active days and, at most, two hours before activity peaks, to catch the early audience and build momentum before the peak. Instagram gives no number, but its Feed signals include how quickly people respond, which points the same way: publish just before the crowd arrives, not after it has peaked.

A practical rule for both apps: take the peak hour from your chart, convert it, and post 30 to 90 minutes earlier. Then let the test in step 5 decide the exact offset.

Step 5: How do you test a slot without fooling yourself?

A posting-time test fails when something other than the time changes. Use a scoring method that controls for account growth and for one-off hits.

  1. Pick two or three candidate slots from steps 2 to 4, written in UTC.
  2. Rotate them for three weeks. Use each slot on a different day each week, so you are not comparing Monday with Friday.
  3. Keep the format fixed. Compare reels with reels and carousels with carousels. On TikTok, compare videos of similar length.
  4. Score each post on first-day reach per follower. Divide views in the first 24 hours by your follower count when you posted. A creator who grows from 2,000 to 2,600 followers during the test would otherwise favor later slots unfairly.
  5. Use the median per slot, not the average. One viral post can drag an average a long way. The median shows the typical result.
  6. Keep the winner and test it against a new challenger. Over a few months you settle on two or three dependable slots.

A hypothetical example: slot A’s five posts score 0.21, 0.19, 0.25, 0.18 and 1.40 views per follower, and slot B’s score 0.31, 0.28, 0.33, 0.27 and 0.30. Slot A has the higher average because of one outlier; slot B has the higher median, 0.30 against 0.21, and is the slot to keep.

How do clock changes move your schedule?

Twice a year the gaps between countries shift, and they don’t shift on the same weekend everywhere. Europe and the UK change a week before North America in autumn and two weeks after it in spring, and Australia’s seasons run the other way.

Period London to New York London to Sydney
Until Oct 3, 2026 5 hours 9 hours
Oct 4 to Oct 24, 2026 5 hours 10 hours
Oct 25 to Oct 31, 2026 4 hours 11 hours
Nov 1, 2026 to Mar 13, 2027 5 hours 11 hours
Mar 14 to Mar 27, 2027 4 hours 11 hours
Mar 28 to Apr 3, 2027 5 hours 10 hours
From Apr 4, 2027 5 hours 9 hours

If you schedule in UTC, your posts stay put while your followers’ clocks move around them. If you schedule in local time, your posts move with your clock but may drift against followers abroad. Either way, open your scheduler the week after each change and check the next few posts against your converted peaks.

How do you schedule posts on Instagram and TikTok?

Both apps now schedule natively, so you can post at 3am for an audience abroad without being awake.

App Where How far ahead Limits to know
Instagram In the app: turn on “Schedule this post” or “Schedule this reel” Up to 30 days Public account; up to 25 scheduled posts a day; collaborative posts and product tags can’t be scheduled
TikTok TikTok Studio on the web Up to 30 days Schedule from the web version; batch uploads in the same place

Scheduling is also where a routine becomes sustainable. TikTok’s Creator Academy suggests dedicating filming days, batching several videos in one session, and then using the schedule feature to reach viewers when they are most active. Live streams are different, because viewers have to be there in real time: pick the slot from your chart and tell followers in advance, as covered in how to go live on TikTok.

Where do paid likes fit into a posting schedule?

After you publish, in the slot your test picked. A first push for a launch post, a new product photo or the first reel of a series gives the followers who see it during their active hours a post that already has some response. It is not a way to make an account look more popular to customers, and it doesn’t replace posts people want to share. Socipro doesn’t target delivery by country, so timing comes from your schedule, not from the order. You paste the public link, we show you the post we found before payment, delivery is tracked live, and anything undelivered is refunded automatically.

Measure what happened afterward the same way you scored your slots: reach per follower, plus interactions. Our Instagram engagement rate calculator works out the rate from the numbers in your insights, and our explainer on how the Instagram algorithm works covers what the different surfaces reward once a post is live.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best time to post on Instagram in 2026?

The hour your own followers are most active, which Instagram shows you. Open Insights, then Total followers, to see their most active times and top locations once you have at least 100 followers. A national or global average describes other people's audiences. Post shortly before your followers' peak, then test that slot against one alternative for three weeks.

When should I post if followers are in the US and Europe?

Aim for the overlap between European evening and the American daytime. From November 2026 to mid-March 2027, 18:00 UTC is 6pm in London, 7pm in Berlin and Paris, 1pm in New York and 10am in Los Angeles. Test a slot in that window against one aimed at your larger group alone, and keep whichever gets more first-day reach per follower.

Should I post at different times on weekends?

Often, yes. Instagram shows your followers' activity by day as well as by hour, and TikTok's Followers tab breaks activity down by hours and days. Many audiences keep different hours on Saturday and Sunday than on weekdays. Read the weekend rows on their own, and treat a weekend slot as a separate test rather than copying your weekday time.

Is it worth reposting a flop at a better time?

Usually not as a straight re-upload. Instagram has said it makes reels already posted on Instagram less visible, and TikTok has said it doesn't recommend duplicated content. If timing really was the problem, change the opening and caption so it is a new post, then publish it in your stronger slot. If the opening was the problem, timing won't rescue it.

How often should I re-check my posting times?

After every clock change and every few months in between. The gap between countries shifts by an hour around daylight saving changes, and your audience changes as you grow. TikTok's Viewers tab shows when viewers were active over the last seven days, which suits quick checks; Instagram lets you look back across the past 90 days for a steadier picture.
