Posting across time zones: an Australian creator's schedule

Australia runs on up to five clock settings in summer. How to plan TikTok and Instagram posts from Perth to Sydney, read UTC charts and label paid posts.

The short answer

Australia has three standard time zones, and in summer only some states move their clocks, so one post lands at different local times. Read your TikTok follower activity, convert any UTC chart to your city, choose slots that reach the east and the west, and label paid or gifted posts clearly under ACCC and AANA rules.

Key facts

  • Daylight saving began on Sunday 4 October 2026 and ends on Sunday 4 April 2027 in NSW, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT.
  • Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not observe daylight saving.
  • Standard offsets: AWST is UTC+8, ACST is UTC+9:30 and AEST is UTC+10.
  • TikTok's Creator Academy suggests posting on your followers' busiest days, a little before activity peaks.
  • An ACCC sweep of 118 influencers found 81% made posts that raised concerns under the Australian Consumer Law.

A Sydney creator who posts at 7pm in January reaches Perth at 4pm, when many people there are still at work or school. The same post in June reaches Perth at 5pm. Nothing about the video changed. The clocks did.

That is the core problem for anyone in Australia with followers spread across the country. This guide works through it as a schedule: which clocks are running, what your post time means in each city, how to read TikTok’s charts from here, and how to build a week that reaches both coasts. If you plan to buy TikTok views in Australia for a new video, the same schedule decides the moment to do it.

Which clocks is Australia running right now?

Australia has three standard time zones. In summer, the southern and south-eastern states move their clocks forward an hour while Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory stay put. The NSW Government lists the dates: daylight saving began at 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026 and ends on Sunday 4 April 2027.

Zone Where Standard time October to April Daylight saving?
Western WA AWST, UTC+8 Stays UTC+8 No
Central SA ACST, UTC+9:30 ACDT, UTC+10:30 Yes
Central NT ACST, UTC+9:30 Stays UTC+9:30 No
Eastern NSW, Vic, Tas, ACT AEST, UTC+10 AEDT, UTC+11 Yes
Eastern Qld AEST, UTC+10 Stays UTC+10 No

So in summer there are five different local times in the country at once. In winter there are three.

What does a 7pm post in Sydney mean around the country?

Here is the same upload, translated into local time. This is simple arithmetic from the table above, and it is worth pinning above your desk.

Sydney time Brisbane Adelaide Darwin Perth
7pm in summer (AEDT) 6pm 6:30pm 5:30pm 4pm
7pm in winter (AEST) 7pm 6:30pm 6:30pm 5pm

Two things stand out. Brisbane drops an hour behind Sydney for half the year, even though both are “eastern”. And the gap to Perth swings between two and three hours, which is enough to move a post out of someone’s evening and into their commute.

If you live in Perth and your followers are mostly in the east, flip the table. A post you send at 6pm Perth time in summer lands at 9pm in Sydney and Melbourne, near the end of many people’s evening scroll.

How do you read TikTok analytics from Australia?

TikTok gives you the answer for your own account. Its Creator Academy describes the Followers tab in analytics as the place to see who your followers are, when they are online and where they are. It suggests posting on your audience’s busiest days and a little ahead of the peak, so the video can pick up early views as people arrive.

Three checks before you trust the chart:

  1. Location first. The Followers tab shows where your audience is. A Melbourne creator whose followers are spread across the whole country plans differently from one whose followers are mostly in Victoria.
  2. Time zone of the chart. Some analytics views report time in UTC. Australia sits eight to eleven hours ahead of UTC depending on the state and season, so a peak marked 09:00 UTC is 8pm in Sydney in summer, 7pm in Brisbane and 5pm in Perth. Convert before you schedule.
  3. Enough data. One viral video can bend the chart for a week. Look at a longer range and check again every month or two.

Instagram works the same way through Insights, under Total followers, once a professional account has 100 followers. If you post the same video to both apps, check both charts: your followers on each app may keep different hours.

How do you build a week that reaches both coasts?

Once you know where your followers are and when they scroll, write the week down. Below is an example for an east-coast creator with a sizeable following in Western Australia. Treat it as a template to adjust to your own chart, not a rule.

Day Post time (Sydney, summer) Lands in Perth Purpose
Monday 8:30pm 5:30pm Main video of the week, aimed at the east
Wednesday 9:30pm 6:30pm Second video, timed for the west’s evening
Thursday 7:30pm 4:30pm LIVE or a reply video to comments
Saturday 11:00am 8:00am Lighter post for weekend mornings
Sunday 7:00pm 4:00pm Recap or behind-the-scenes

A few habits keep a schedule like this working:

  • Batch the filming, not the posting. Film three or four videos in one session, then upload each at its slot. A schedule only helps if you can keep it.
  • Give the west its own slot. One post a week aimed at Perth’s evening is often enough to stop your western followers seeing everything mid-afternoon.
  • Move the week twice a year. On the first Sunday of October and the first Sunday of April, rewrite the times. Queensland and WA followers will otherwise see your posts an hour off.
  • Go LIVE when your followers are free. Live viewers have to be there in real time, so the slot matters even more than for a regular video.

If your views stall in the low hundreds no matter when you post, timing may not be the problem. Why TikTok views get stuck at 200 covers the other usual causes, and how the TikTok For You algorithm works explains how a video is tested on its first viewers.

Where do paid views fit into an Australian schedule?

TikTok tests a new video on a small group first. Views ordered right after you post give a good video a fair first look during the hours your followers are most active, instead of sitting at zero while the east coast goes to bed. They suit new videos you believe in, launches and the first post after a break.

They do not fix a weak hook and they are no substitute for timing. Socipro does not aim delivery at any state or city, so treat views as support for the video itself rather than a way to reach a particular part of Australia. You enter the public link, our check shows you the video we found, and you check it before paying. Use them to help your work get seen, never to suggest to customers or sponsors that a following is bigger than it is.

What are Australia’s rules for paid and gifted posts?

If a brand pays you, gives you products or tickets, or rewards you some other way, your followers need to know. Two sets of rules apply. Checked October 2026.

Rule Who sets or enforces it What it says, in short Official text
Australian Consumer Law, section 18 ACCC and state fair trading agencies No misleading or deceptive conduct in trade or commerce, including hidden ads Competition and Consumer Act 2010, Schedule 2
AANA Code of Ethics, clause 2.7 Industry code; complaints decided by the Ad Standards Community Panel “Advertising shall be clearly distinguishable as such” AANA Code of Ethics

What the regulators have said in practice:

  • The ACCC is watching creators. Its sweep of 118 influencers found 81% made posts that raised concerns under the Australian Consumer Law, most often for not disclosing brand relationships. It flagged vague tags such as “sp”, “spon” and “collab”, and disclosures hidden at the end of long captions.
  • Gifts count. The ACCC has said free products, tickets and other incentives point to a relationship that should be disclosed.
  • Brands share the risk. Both creators and the businesses that use them can break the law if posts mislead.
  • Labels that work. The AANA practice note gives examples such as #ad, Advertising, Paid Partnership and Paid Promotion, and says #sp, Spon, gifted, Affiliate or Collab may not be enough. Put the label where people see it before tapping “more”.

For how Australia compares with the UK, the US and other markets, read influencer disclosure rules by country. This is general information, not legal advice. More local guides are in local marketing, and payment and currency details for orders from Australia are on the Australia page.

Frequently asked questions

Should a Perth creator post on Sydney time?

Only if most of your followers live on the east coast. Check the Followers tab in TikTok analytics for where your audience is. If the east dominates, schedule for their evening, which falls in your afternoon. If your followers are mostly in Western Australia, post on Perth time and ignore eastern charts. A mixed audience needs two slots.

Does daylight saving change my TikTok analytics?

The data does not change, but how you read it does. If a chart is shown in UTC, the gap to Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Canberra and Adelaide grows by an hour from October to April. Brisbane, Darwin and Perth keep the same gap all year. Re-convert your peak hours after each clock change.

Do I have to disclose a free product in Australia?

Generally yes. The ACCC has said free products, tickets and other gifts point to a relationship that should be disclosed, and the AANA practice note lists gifted items alongside payment. Use a clear label such as #ad or the platform's paid partnership tool at the start of the post. This is general information, not legal advice.

When should I order views on a new TikTok?

Right after it is posted in your chosen slot, once you can copy its public link. The video then has a visible view count while your followers are most active, which is when TikTok is testing it with its first viewers. Ordering for an old video that has already stalled rarely changes much on its own.
