Why comments matter on TikTok

Comments are where a TikTok video turns into a conversation, and the comment section is a place people actually read. Viewers open it to find the answer to the question the video raised, to see whether others noticed the same detail, or to check what people think before they buy. A video with an empty comment section gives them nothing to open.

TikTok names commenting among the interactions that feed its recommendations. Most of the risk sits in the wording. Repeated lines, off-topic praise and comments full of links are what people and filters notice. TikTok comments in 2026: what has changed

TikTok’s Community Guidelines, in the version that took effect on September 13, 2025, name comments directly. Under spam and fake engagement they list “using bots or scripts to write fake reviews or comments, or to increase likes or shares”, and they bar the trade of services that artificially increase engagement. They also say that inauthentic metrics, once detected, are removed. TikTok revises the text periodically, so confirm the current wording.
