The short answer

Treat your Instagram profile as the menu people read before they book. Keep the bio, highlights and pinned posts current, post dishes and the room as short videos, time posts by your followers' active hours on UAE time, and check whether the UAE National Media Authority's advertiser permit applies before paying creators to post.

Key facts

- The UAE is 4 hours ahead of GMT (UAE Government portal).
- The UAE National Media Authority was set up under Federal Decree-Law No. 11 of 2025 and licenses media activity, including digital media.
- Individuals who publish advertising on social media in the UAE, paid or unpaid, need an advertiser permit from the authority.
- Visiting creators can get a temporary permit through a licensed UAE advertising agency, valid for 3 months.
- Advertising must follow the UAE Media Content Standards, which include respecting the country's culture, identity and values.

Before anyone books a table in Dubai, they usually look you up. They want to see the food, the room, the price level and whether you are open tonight. For a lot of people that check happens on Instagram, so your profile does the job a printed menu and a shop window used to do.

This guide is for owners and marketing leads at restaurants, cafés, lounges and event venues. It covers how to set up the profile, what to post in a normal week, when to post on UAE time, and the permit rules you need to know before paying anyone to promote you. If you are planning a launch and want to see what Socipro offers venues in the city, the [Dubai page](https://socipro.com/ae/dubai) lists the services people order most, with prices in the currency shown on that page.

## What do diners look for on a restaurant’s Instagram?

Think about the questions a first-time guest has, then make sure the profile answers them within a few seconds of scrolling.

- **What is the food like?** Close, well-lit shots and short videos of dishes being plated or served.
- **What is the room like?** A wide shot of the space at the time people would actually visit, not only empty at noon.
- **Can I book or order?** A link in the bio that goes straight to reservations or delivery.
- **Where are you, and when are you open?** Area, nearest landmark people use for directions, opening hours, and whether there is parking or valet.
- **Is it right for my occasion?** Family dinner, business lunch, date night, a big group: show the ones you want.

If any of those answers take more than a couple of taps to find, people move on to the next place in their saved list.

## How should a Dubai venue set up its profile?

Small changes to the fixed parts of the profile pay off on every visit.

| Profile part | What to put there | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Name field | Venue name plus cuisine or type (“Lebanese grill”, “specialty coffee”) | People search by cuisine as well as by name |
| Bio | Area, hours, one line on what makes you different | Answers “where and when” without a tap |
| Link | Booking or delivery page, not your homepage | Fewer steps between interest and a table |
| Highlights | Menu, the room, events, location and directions | Visitors check these before your feed |
| Pinned posts | Signature dish, current offer, upcoming event | The first three tiles set the impression |

Update the highlights whenever the menu or hours change. A highlight showing last year’s menu creates a bad surprise at the table.

## What should you post in a normal week?

You do not need a big production budget. You need a rhythm the team can keep, and posts that show real food and real service.

- **One signature-dish video.** Plating, the sizzle, the pour, the first cut. Short, close and without a long intro.
- **One “the room tonight” post.** The space with guests in it, filmed with permission, at the hour you want to fill.
- **One person from the team.** The chef explaining a dish, a barista dialing in a coffee, a host welcoming a table. Faces build trust.
- **One practical post.** New hours, a holiday menu, a set lunch, a reminder to book for the weekend.
- **Stories every service.** Quick, unpolished clips of what is coming out of the kitchen.

Instagram decides how far a reel travels partly on whether people watch it and share it, which is why a tight, close video of one dish often beats a polished still. The mechanics are covered in [how the Instagram algorithm works](https://socipro.com/blog/how-instagram-reels-algorithm-works). Shares matter a lot for venues: when someone sends your reel to the friend they are going to dinner with, that is the moment a booking starts.

## When are a Dubai venue’s followers online?

The UAE runs 4 hours ahead of GMT. That sounds simple, but a Dubai venue’s followers rarely all live in Dubai. Residents, visitors planning a trip and people who ate with you once and went home all follow the same account.

Instagram Insights shows your followers’ top locations and the times they are most active, once a professional account has at least 100 followers. Use it in this order:

1. **Check top locations first.** If most followers are in the UAE, plan on UAE time. If a large share live elsewhere, decide whether those people are guests you want to reach (tourists planning a visit) or noise.
2. **Then check active hours.** Note the two or three busiest windows and the days they fall on.
3. **Match posts to decisions.** Post the “book for the weekend” reminder a day or two before the weekend, in a busy window. Post the dish video when people are deciding where to eat, not after they have eaten.
4. **Re-check in special periods.** Religious holidays, school holidays and the city’s big event seasons shift routines. Look at the chart again in those weeks instead of assuming last month’s pattern still holds.

## Who needs a UAE advertiser permit?

This is the part venues most often get wrong, so read it before you book creators. Checked October 2026.

Media licensing in the UAE is handled by the **UAE National Media Authority (NMA)**, a federal authority set up under Federal Decree-Law No. 11 of 2025. According to its own FAQ, it regulates and licenses media activities, including digital media, and sets the standards that media in the country must meet. Its e-services list two advertising permits for social media.

| Permit | Who it is for | Key conditions from the NMA page | Validity and fee |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Advertiser permit for individuals | People who publish advertising or media on their social accounts, paid or unpaid | Good conduct, a training program, ads must follow the Media Content Standards | Free for the first 3 years, then AED 1,000 |
| Visiting advertiser permit | Individuals visiting the UAE who post advertising | Applied for through a licensed UAE advertising agency, applicant at least 18 | 3 months, extendable to 6 months in total; AED 500 |

Official texts: [individual permit](https://www.nma.gov.ae/en/services/permit-for-an-individual-to-provide-advertising-or-media-content-on-social-media-and-other-digital-platforms), visitor permit, Media Content Standards and the list of media laws, which includes the Media Regulation Law and Cabinet Resolution No. 42 of 2025 on administrative violations and penalties.

What this means for a venue in practice:

- **Paying a creator?** Ask for their permit before the visit. For a visiting creator, the application goes through a licensed agency, so build that time into your plan.
- **Free meals count as a deal.** The permit description covers advertising “for compensation or free of charge”, so a comped dinner in exchange for a post is not a loophole.
- **Stay inside the Media Content Standards.** They cover respect for religion, the state, national identity and public morals, privacy, and a ban on misleading news. Dress, alcohol and nightlife footage deserve a second look before posting.
- **Your own account.** The permits are written for individuals. If your team member runs a personal account that promotes the venue, ask whether they need one too.

Fees and conditions change, so check the NMA pages on the day you apply. For a deeper walk-through of the permit itself, read [the UAE advertiser permit guide](https://socipro.com/blog/uae-advertiser-permit-influencers), and for how the UAE compares with other markets, see [influencer disclosure rules by country](https://socipro.com/blog/influencer-disclosure-rules-by-country). ## Where do bought followers or likes fit for a venue?

Used carefully, they help a good post get a fair first look. A new opening, a new menu or a one-off event night starts with zero reach, and a reel that already shows some likes and views looks less empty to the people who scroll past it.

Some lines we hold to, and you should too:

- **Never use them to fake demand.** Do not present a bought count as proof that the place is full or that diners love a dish. Guests decide on the food, and misleading them backfires at the table.
- **Never mix them with reviews.** Ratings and written reviews come from guests. Socipro does not sell reviews or ratings, and comments you order should never claim to come from someone who ate there.
- **Keep it in proportion.** A small boost on the posts that matter, such as the opening reel or the event announcement, is enough.

Delivery from Socipro is not tied to Dubai or the UAE: the order goes to your public post wherever it is viewed, and you see the post before paying. More city and country guides are in [local marketing](https://socipro.com/blog/local), and the wider [UAE page](https://socipro.com/ae) covers payment and currency for orders from the Emirates.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does my restaurant need a permit to post its own menu?

Possibly not, but check. The authority's permit pages describe a permit for individuals who publish advertising on their own social media accounts, so a venue posting on its own business account is a different case. Rules can depend on your trade license and emirate. Ask the UAE National Media Authority or your licensing advisor before assuming you are exempt. This is general information, not legal advice.

### Can I pay a visiting food creator to post about us?

Yes, but check their permit first. The UAE National Media Authority offers a temporary permit for visiting individuals, applied for through a licensed UAE advertising agency, valid for 3 months and extendable up to 6 months in total. Ask the creator or their agency for proof before the visit, and keep a copy with your booking.

### Should we post in Arabic, English or both?

Often both, but check your follower locations in Instagram Insights first. One common approach is English captions with Arabic added for dish names, offers and key details, but the right mix depends on who actually follows you. Testing one bilingual post a week against English-only posts shows quickly which version your followers save and share.

### Is buying likes the same as faking reviews?

No, and keep the two apart. Likes on a menu reel help a new post get a first look in the feed. Reviews are statements by diners about a meal they had, and writing or buying them misleads guests. Socipro does not sell reviews or ratings, and comment orders should never be worded as if a guest had eaten there.
